The Portage Northern Band program has a long history of success in both the Concert and Marching elements. The program is comprised of several elements that promote strong music education through a curriculum geared toward developing the individual musician while engaging them in several types of ensembles and performance opportunities.
Marching Band
The Portage Northern Marching Band is the "flagship" of the program. All students in the band program participate in our Competitive Marching program.
Concert Band
Concert Band is our primary ensemble at the high school. This group, comprised mainly of freshman, is focused on individual development.
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is our premiere instrumental performance opportunity for students. The ensemble is comprised of primarily Juniors and Seniors.
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is our intermediate ensemble. This ensemble, comprised mainly of Sophomores and Juniors, focuses on building a core understanding of ensemble concepts.
